Tracks & Sync Of The Month: February
In collaboration with Universal Music Group, Amp.Amsterdam // The Sonic Branding Company will share a selection of recently released music each month. At the beginning of each month, we take a moment to look back at a number of sync-friendly songs that were recently synced or released. Sit back, relax and listen to (or watch) our Tracks of the Month!
One Hit For Uber One | Uber
Song 1: ‘This is How We Do it’
Artist: Montell Jordan (i.a. written by Ricky Walters)
Song 2: ‘Milkshake’
Artist: Kelis (i.a. written by Chad Hugo)
Start date: February 7th 2023
Last month one of the biggest sporting events in the world took place: the Super Bowl. And as always, it wasn’t just about the football game. Besides the Halftime Show, with Rihanna as headliner this year, it’s an opportunity for companies to showcase their newest innovations to about roughly 100 million viewers. This results in the most expensive, extravagant, star-dudded commercials that many viewers are equally as excited about as the football game.
Uber teamed up with Sean “Diddy” Combs for their Uber One membership commercial. Diddy was asked to create a hit song for Uber. As producer he gathered various artists responsible for the catchiest songs ever. Including Kelis and Montell Jordan that sang their (rewritten) hits ‘Milkshake’ and ‘This is How We Do It’.
Mae Stephens – If We Ever Broke Up
Anyone that’s been scrolling through Tiktok these last couple of months probably recognizes song. 19-year-old Mae Stephens released a snippet of her this song on Tiktok, and in no-time it became the soundtrack to thousands of videos. The funky break-up song gives people that boss energy that helps them get over a break-up. Mae has since quit her job at a local supermarket, got signed at Republic Records and released the full song.
Fun fact: The song was written in Amsterdam together with Dutch songwriter Gia Koka.
Keywords: funky, break-up, alternative pop
Snelle – Terugweg
We heard him in the Interpolis campaign with his hit song ‘Smoorverliefd’, but that wasn’t the only time Snelle wrote a song for commercials. For the app Gimble he wrote ‘Geen plek als onderweg’, and most recently he wrote ‘Kleine moeite, groot gebaar’ for Milka. Last month he released his new single ‘Terugweg’. A catchy song with simple, uplifting lyrics and a guitar solo to top it off. The perfect song to blast during a roadtrip.
Keywords: easy listening, pop, happy
The Teskey Brothers – Oceans Of Emotions
The Australian band used to only make music late at night after work and played regular venues every weekend. Singer Josh Teskey was a plumber, people used to call him “the singing plumber”. Sam Teskey was a carpenter and built their home studio where their debut album “Half Mile Harvest” was recorded. After this album was released in 2017 the ball started rolling, and ever since then they have been regularly touring all over the world. On March 10th, they will be playing at the AFAS live, their biggest show in the Netherlands so far!
The band’s timeless sound, and Josh’s raw, passionate voice, often compared to Otis Redding, make ‘Oceans Of Emotions’ a track that is definitely syncable. They have proven to be a good fit for a commercial before with their song “Hold Me” that was featured in a 2019 Walgreens commercial.
Keywords: blues, soul, emotional
Jason Mraz – I Feel Like Dancing
Exactly what we needed this winter: an optimistic, energetic song that brings light during these somewhat dark days. We won’t be surprised if the song will soon be heard in the soundtrack of a feel-good movie or in a commercial that gives you that summer feeling.
Jason Mraz is no stranger to the world of sync. One of his biggest hits “I’m Yours” can be heard in the documentary: “Shawn Mendes: In wonder”, the movies: “Neighbors 2” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” and the hit series: “90210”. Last year, the song was featured in the Wildlife Fund TV Spot. You can also regularly hear his music on talent shows such as “The Voice” and” So You Think You Can Dance”. Something that his new track would be perfect for as well.
Keywords: happy, groovy, danceable
